Fort Sill Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces Center achieves “Double Hero” status for the benefit of the local Lawton, Oklahoma Red Cross Service Center

The American Red Cross Fort Sill (Oklahoma) Service to the Armed Forces Center far exceeded its 2010 Hero Campaign $2000 goal, attaining “Double Hero” status for the local (Lawton, Oklahoma) Red Cross Service Center. Staff, volunteers, retirees, and family members participated in a kick-off dance event; “silent” and regular auctions; an in-house “flea market”, with various Red Cross memorabilia being featured …all donated by fellow active and retired Red Crossers. Other activities included various food sales and prizes, with popular highlight events including “Brownie Fridays”, “PB&J Days”, and “Valentine’s Day Cupcakes & Lollipops”. Total proceeds for the 2010 campaign came to $2866.27, all designated for local Lawton Red Cross Service Center operations …particularly disaster response efforts during severe weather related events, including a Christmas Eve blizzard and a major ice storm in late January. The impressive effort for 2010 brings the Fort Sill Red Cross grand total annual Hero Campaign contribution - four years running – to $7271.72! ONE RED CROSS!  FULL STEAM AHEAD!!

Happy National Volunteer Week!

National Volunteer Week began in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order establishing the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. The purpose was to recognize the millions of dedicated Americans who volunteer during the year in an effort to make the world a better place.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, we have two events:
